You shouldn't have to put your life on hold for 1 or 2 years

If knee arthritis is keeping you from walking comfortably, working, sleeping through the night, or simply enjoying time with your family, you already know something needs to change.

The public system can mean waiting a year or more before you even see a surgeon. That's another year of pain, lost mobility, and missed moments.

You don't have to accept that timeline. Private knee treatment or surgery means you choose when you're ready, and I can usually see you within days of your first call.

Why thousands of patients trust me with their knees

Robotic Precision

I've performed over 200 robotic-assisted knee replacements using the latest technology. Robotic guidance allows me to personalize your implant positioning with 3D imaging, so the surgery is tailored to your anatomy — not a one-size-fits-all approach. This means less ligament disruption during surgery, a more natural-feeling knee, and a faster recovery.

Proven Track Record

Over 1,500 successful knee replacements across 38+ years of practice. As Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Jewish General Hospital since 1991, I've overseen one of the top 5 orthopedic departments in Canada (Newsweek, 2023 and 2024). I bring that same standard of care to every private patient.

Academic Excellence

As Associate Professor of Surgery at McGill University, I've trained the next generation of orthopedic surgeons for over 38 years. Teaching keeps me at the forefront of every advancement in knee replacement surgery.

A bit about me and why I do this

As Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Jewish General Hospital and Associate Professor at McGill University, I've dedicated my career to helping patients reclaim their mobility and quality of life through advanced, personalized knee replacement surgery.

After decades in the public system, I witnessed many patients suffering needlessly while waiting 1–2 years or more for surgery. No one should have to tolerate enduring pain and disability and losing precious years of their life.

I believe every patient deserves to live without pain and shouldn't have to wait years for relief. My mission is to restore your mobility and quality of life quickly so you can get back to the activities and people you love most.

"He and his team were so efficient and precise, helpful and professional. I did bilateral TKR, and although I was VERY scared before the operation, I listened to his advice and accepted to 'replace' both knees at the same time. Now, I am working (and walking) after 2 months!!! Walking without pain! I cannot describe the feeling of gratitude to him and his colleagues and whole postoperative team."

"From the first appointment with Dr Zukor, I felt at ease to ask questions and very pleased with his advice and explanations... The operation went very well as expected and I was surprised that Dr Zukor called my wife in the waiting room to let her know that everything went very well. I never felt so comfortable with any other doctor, as I did with Dr. Zukor. He is amazing, compassionate, helpful, friendly along with his assisting doctors, nurses and staff. He came to see me and talk to me multiple times before the operation, after the operation and called me at home the day after."

I had my bilateral knee replacement on 10 of February 2022. Next morning dr David told me everything went well. If I can walk to the excise room and climb up and down 5 stairs, he will let me go home the same day. I did it and was home by late afternoon. Dr called me his STAR patient. I had lots of pain but I followed the instructions by the book. On my 6-week checkup, I am healing beautifully. He has kind, gentle and magical hands. His secretary Rona Liz listened to all my fears and helped me with a smile. I never expected my surgery to be so easy and smooth.

Treatment options tailored to your situation

Total Knee Replacement

Complete replacement of your knee joint using the latest implant technology. With robotic-assisted precision, I can ensure optimal alignment and positioning of the knee and the implants for the best possible outcome.

By personalizing your surgery, I can often avoid releasing or tightening ligaments during the procedure — which means an easier recovery and a knee that feels more natural. Advanced pain management allows most patients to walk within hours of surgery, and many go home the same day.

Bilateral Knee Replacement

If both knees need replacing, certain patients can have both done in a single surgery. One trip to the operating room, one anesthetic, one recovery period — instead of two separate surgeries months apart.

During your consultation, I'll assess whether this approach is right for you based on your health, lifestyle, and goals.

PRP Therapy (Non-Surgical)

Not every knee requires surgery. For patients with early-to-moderate arthritis or those who aren't ready for a full replacement, I offer PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy as a non-surgical treatment option.

PRP uses a concentration of your own blood platelets, injected directly into the knee joint, to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and support your body's natural healing process. During your consultation, I'll evaluate whether PRP is the right approach for your situation or whether replacement surgery would give you a better long-term outcome.

Where I operate: Westmount Square Surgical Center, Montreal

I perform my private surgeries at Westmount Square Surgical Center — a modern facility in the heart of Montreal designed for your safety and comfort. The operating theatres are equipped with the latest instruments for both open and minimally invasive surgery, maintaining the highest standards of care.

Unlike a traditional hospital, the center was designed with a warm, spa-like atmosphere: natural light, soft earth tones, and a dedicated team of nurses recognized for their compassion and professionalism. Patients consistently say it feels nothing like a hospital — and that makes a real difference in managing pre-surgery stress and post-surgery recovery.

"Wonderful clinic, doctors, nurses and support staff. My surgery went great and I was treated so well. Very much appreciated the level of care in this clinic compared to a big hospital."

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I have my knee surgery?

Private patients can typically have their surgery within 2–6 weeks of their consultation, depending on medical clearance and your preferred timing.

How is robotic-assisted knee surgery different?

Robotic-assisted surgery uses 3D imaging and computer guidance to position your implant with greater precision. It also allows me to personalize the alignment strategy for your knee specifically, which means the surgery can often be done with little or no need to release or tighten ligaments. The result is an easier recovery and a knee that feels more natural. I'm one of the few private orthopedic surgeons in Quebec offering this technology.

What's the recovery time?

Most patients are walking within hours of surgery and can return to light activities within 2–3 weeks. Full recovery typically takes 6–12 weeks, but many patients report significant improvement much sooner than they expected.

Am I a candidate for same-day surgery?

Many healthy patients with good home support qualify for same-day knee replacement. During your consultation, I'll assess your medical history, current health, and home situation to determine if outpatient surgery is right for you.

What if I need both knees replaced?

For healthy patients, bilateral surgery can be performed safely in one procedure — one recovery period instead of two separate surgeries months apart.

Do you accept insurance?

Quebec's public health insurance (RAMQ) doesn't cover private surgery costs, but some private insurance plans may provide partial coverage. The surgical center can help you understand your insurance benefits and provide the necessary documentation for claims.
